FG to provide school meals in Nasarawa

Federal Government will start the second phase of the school feeding program of primary 1-3 pupils in the next academic session in Nasarawa state in a bid to increase enrolment.

The school feeding programme which commenced in 14 states, was already feeding about 2.9 million primary school children across in the country.

Speaking at the two-day stakeholders’ implementation workshop in Lafia on the National Home Grown School Feeding Programme, the Operation Manager of the National Social Investment Programme (NSIP), a programme, Mr. Dotun Adebayo said the workshop was aimed at building the capacity of the state government and other stakeholders for the programme.

Adebayo also said Nasarawa State was selected as one of the pilot states to empower women, reduce malnutrition, increase enrolment in schools, and tackle illiteracy.

The state Desk Officer of All Federal Government Intervention Programmes in the state,  Magaji Amos, said the implementation of the school feeding programme would first commenced with pupils of primary 1-3, thereafter it would incorporate primary 4-6.

Commissioner for Education, Ahmed Tijjani said the programme has not only come to stay, but would increase enrolment.
