UI first female Muslim professor to deliver lecture on economic recession

The first female Muslim to become a Professor in the University of Ibadan, Professor Ashiata Bolatito Lanre-Abbas would deliver the 6th Lateefah Moyosore Durosinmi (LMD) Foundation lecture at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun state.

According to a statement by the Chairperson of the 2017 LMDF Planning committee, Jade Mohammed, the lecture would hold at Ogunbanjo Hall at 10 am on Saturday, July 8.

The lecture titled “Women and Economic Recession: Survival Tips From Islamic Perspective’’ is the Foundation’s contribution towards finding a lasting solution to the economic situation of the country.

Dr Durosinmi was the immediate past Dean of Student’s Affairs at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife and former National Ameerah (President) of Federation of Muslim Women Association of Nigeria (FOMWAN).

The University of Ibadan Senate in June approved the professorship of Prof. Ashiata Lanre-Abbas of Philosophy department. The Foundation, which is under the Chairperson of Prof. Fatima Abdulkareem, a Professor of Medicine, had been in existence since 2009.

The statement added that a renowned economist and accountant, Alhaji Ahmed Tunde Popoola, Managing Director of CRC Credit Bureau Limited, Lagos, would be the chairman of the occasion.

Mohammed said that a book titled “The Greatest Creed, Reflections, Tributes and Lectures’’ written in honour of Dr Durosinmi would be presented while some distinguished Nigerians would be honoured with awards and that there would be grants for women and scholarship awards to school children.

Other highlights of the event designed to mark the 60th birthday ceremony of Dr Lateefah Durosinmi include visit to orphanage homes both in Osun and Oyo states and Jumah service at Obafemi Awolowo University Central Mosque in Ife.
